Dreams, travel, science, and politics influence my art. I’m most inspired by the beauty and power of nature - by trees, animals, rocks, and flowers, and by nature's inherent domination over civilization.

As all things change over time, growing, disintegrating, and yielding to something new, civilizations also dissolve, and new habitats emerge as pristine nature. My paintings contain metaphors for this impermanence, and for the interconnectedness of all that exists.

The Erik Winfree/Ann Erpino Science Series

Seventy small paintings conceptualized with Caltech's Dr. Erik Winfree depict Winfree Laboratory research, including synthetic biology, DNA self-assembly, life’s mineral origins, computer science, neural systems, and nanotechnology.

Ranging from literal interpretations to metaphorical syntheses, these paintings incoporate broader scientific concepts and theories, as well as personality traits, interests, and hobbies of Dr. Winfree’s intellectual collaborators, for whom these paintings were commissioned as gifts.
