Ishi, the Last Yahi Sold
People |
| In 1911, after many years of solitude in the Sierra Nevada foothills, starving Ishi, last survivor of 20,000 Yahi aborigines, revealed himself to European invaders in Oroville, California, who befriended him. Ishi taught hunting and foraging skills to his new associates, sang to hospitalized immigrant children and was showcased around California until his death in 1916 from tuberculosis. |
