In Pompeii in 1987 I had an epiphany - a knowing that my paintings would, in part, address the ephemerality of civilization in the many faces of nature's inadvertent, relentless encroachment. Since then I've traveled to other archaeological sites and natural wonders, collecting sketches and inspirations.
